I teach Entrepreneurship (BUSI95) - this course offers an examination of the principles and functions of how to become a successful entrepreneur � i.e., planning, starting, running, and managing a new business. The goal of the course is to teach you to understand the objectives and operations of a company from the start. As well as the managerial decision-making processes and their relationships to consumers and stakeholders. We will learn about entrepreneurship and what it is and isn�t. Topics that I cover in detail including organizational structure, behavior, management, marketing, financial and accounting operations, information systems, ethical and social responsibilities. All of these are important in the forming and running of a new business.

When I am not trying to improve the world through venture capital, I enjoy having fun with his family and pets, working on classic vehicles, competing in track & field and strength competitions, and doing what he can to be healthy. I serve on some non-profit boards such as the Computer History Museum, and the Harvard Business School Association of Northern California, and the Foothill-De Anza College Foundation (since 1998!).

I am preparing to launch a new venture capital fund that focuses on investments combating the symptoms and inventing cures for chronic diseases that affect over half of all adults in the US. The fundamentals for this fund is that intelligent convergence of state-of-the-art technology into life sciences/medical will improve lives. Before this new venture fund, Ben was a Co-founder and Managing Partner at Asset Management Ventures for more than 15 years. Asset Management Ventures invested in early-stage information technology and life science companies and more importantly, the intersection of those two sectors, an area he identified as the Health Science Technology sector.

I have real hands-on experience as an engineer and entrepreneur with over 16 years being a technologist building innovative products. I co-founded two companies; Los Altos Technologies (mission critical computer security) and Full Source Software (the first open source Unix commercial software business) both with his business partner, Gary Kremen. In the early days of Sun Microsystems, I worked for Eric Schmidt (former CEO of Google) as part of a stealth team that created a next-gen parallel multiuser development platform. Later, I rejoined Sun's Javasoft company as the Senior Product Manager responsible for the management and marketing of Java technologies. Before that, I was a hardware/software engineer at Lockheed Martin inventing tools on the first Sun workstations for designing/interfacing/simulation of custom semiconductors as well as for complete circuit boards for surveillance satellites. I hold two Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Michigan, in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
