June 2018
PaRC Update

Below is a summary of the action and information items from the most recent Planning and Resource Council (PaRC) meetings. For complete minutes and first-reads, please visit the PaRC website.

2018-19 STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
President Nguyen will share the 2018-19 strategic objectives at the Governance Summit on September 14.

YEAR 1 AND 2 BUDGET REDUCTION LIST
PaRC voted to accept an updated budget reduction list which includes four faculty and one classified employee vacancies due to retirement, enabling the college to save an additional $188,000 (approximately). The new list will be sent to the district.

REQUEST FOR FEEDBACK ON PROCESS OF PROGRAM ELIMINATION
The Integrated Planning & Budget Team (IPB), representing constituency groups, will work during the summer to develop a proposal of criteria to the new Governance Council. The council will either accept the criteria or develop new ones to determine program discontinuance necessary for budget reductions. PaRC also voted to allow the IPB to create criteria for the redesign of program review for 2019-20.

MANAGEMENT REORGANZIATION
President Nguyen presented the management reorganization chart for review. It is part one of a two-part reorganization plan for management's shared contribution to Year 3 budget reductions.

OPC RESOURCE RECOMMENDATIONS
PaRC approved the OPC list of resource recommendations.

PROGRAM REVIEW RECOMMENDATIONS
Since the June 6 PaRC meeting, the Program Review Committee met with several programs to get their feedback. PaRC did a second read of the program review recommendations presented and agreed to keep green programs in green and red programs in red. The group voted to do a third and final read for the yellow programs next year.

FEEDBACK: FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE (FYE)
With two dissenting votes and two abstaining, PaRC voted to allow FYE to continue next year with reassign time for two faculty members.

MAKERSPACE CERTIFICATE
PaRC moved to approve the new makerspace coordinator certificate.

Thanks from BioLink Depot

Hi Folks,

Foothill College has been kind enough to let BioLink depot use a small space on their campus as a distribution center for BioLink Depot.

BioLink Depot is a charitable organization run by volunteers that collects excess scientific equipment and supplies from biotechs, pharmas, and research institutions in the Bay Area and then redistributes them for free to educators and researchers through a series of open houses.

Thanks to Foothill we were able to supply about $274,000 of scientific equipment and supplies (about 33 tons saved from landfills!) to 109 schools, colleges, and  community laboratories with about 155 individual teachers and scientists taking advantage of the free offerings. The teachers estimate that about 17,000 students have benefited.

Thank you again for all at Foothill who helped facilitate this unique endeavour.
