Planning and Resource Council (PaRC) Update

Below is a summary of the action and information items from the most recent Planning and Resource Council (PaRC) meetings. For complete minutes and first-reads, please visit the PaRC website.
Bernata Slater presented a summary of the OPC resource allocation, as documented in a spreadsheet detailing the resource requests and deans and VPs prioritization.

Slater presented a draft of the Facilities Master Plan, which includes changes requested from staff and ASFC. The plan is available on the college website and includes options for potential projects, but at this point, there is no funding attached to any of the projects. Discussion would agree at many levels before anything moves forward. The plan will return to PaRC for further discussion.

PaRC will experiment with an informational memo that allows items that are informational in nature to be sent to committees in the form of a memo prior to the meeting. This idea is a result of the shared governance meetings held during the spring and will allow for lengthier discussions at PaRC meetings.

Dawn Girardelli presented an update on the college's various workforce grants and funding sources.  Most notably, a timeline for the college's Strong Workforce plan will come to PaRC in January 2017.

The group approved the core mission workgroup objectives template for the year. No changes were made from the year prior.

Family Engagement Institute receives prestigious statewide diversity award

Foothill College's Family Engagement Institute was named a recipient of the prestigious Dr. John W. Rice Diversity & Equity Award on July 19, 2016. The award, established in 2001, honors community college staff members, districts, colleges or programs that have made the greatest contribution toward faculty, staff and student diversity and equity.

The Family Engagement Institute (FEI) has been making a critical difference in the lives of underserved students and their families since its inception in 2010 as a unique cradle-to-career initiative at Foothill College. The program provides educational opportunities to underserved and low-income families, while offering professional development to educators and providers to promote school and workforce readiness, family engagement and pathways to postsecondary education.
