EAST OF THE SUN AND WEST OF THE MOON
A play for children and families

EAST OF THE SUN AND WEST OF THE MOONBy Nancy Willard
Directed by Tom Gough
Costume Design by Aggie Delucchi
Scenic Design by Tomomi Hasegawa

Based on the Norwegian folk tale of the same name, East of the Sun and West of the Moon tells the wildly adventurous tale of Karen, the daughter of a very poor woodcutter. To help her family, Karen makes a deal with a bear that, unknown to her, is actually a prince seeking her love and affection. The bear cannot reveal his true identity because of a spell cast by the Royal Troll Family. Unaware of the spell, Karen’s curiosity gets the best of her causing a chain reaction of fantastic events that prompts Karen to seek the assistance of the Four Winds to undo the spell. Filled with extraordinary characters, puppets and a thrilling story, East of the Sun and West of the Moon is sure to spark your students’ imaginations. Recommended for grades K through 4, the show’s running time will be approximately 60 minutes.
