Deborah Fass has a B.A. in Creative Writing/Literature, an M.A. in English/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, and an M. F. A. in Creative Writing. Before becoming an ESL teacher, Deborah was an international student, studying Japanese literature at a university in southern Japan on a Japanese Ministry of Education Research Fellowship. Deborah has been teaching ESL for over twenty years; she has been teaching at Foothill College since 1996. In addition, Deborah has taught at San Francisco City College and the University of California, Berkeley, English Language Program. In Japan, she taught at private language schools and at a public middle school.
