In celebration of celebration of Foothill College's Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, "Too Cool for School" features a rebroadcast of a Freak Week special from April 12, 2011 (see playlist) in which Cynthia Lombard showcases vintage vinyl records from Asia. Selections include the 1960s pop of the Silverstones to a number of 1960s and 1970s albums from Singapore and Japan, including some mystery releases.Tune in at 89.7 FM, at KFJC.org, or listen in the KFJC Broadcast Archives for two weeks following the show.

Artist Talk, Binh Danh: Process and Memory

FH Photography Professor Ron Herman hosts an artist talk with Vietnamese-American photographer Binh Danh. Best known for embedding images in leaves through the action of photosynthesis, a photographic technique which he dubbed chlorophyll printing process, Danh’s work has explored the history of the war in Vietnam, his home country. His work asks the viewer to consider the tragedy of war and being lost. Danh’s current work explores photography’s continued relationship to memory and landscape with subject matter ranging from the American Civil War to the National Parks.

Artist Talk, Renee Billingslea: Ten Japanese-American Concentration Camps

FH Photography Professor Ron Herman hosts an artist talk with photographer and mixed-media artist Renee Billingslea. The artist will discuss her project, “Ten Japanese-Concentration Camps,” which explores the impact of Executive Order 9066 on Japanese Americans during World War II and beyond. By interlacing old photos with current images, Billingslea enables the viewer to examine this chapter in our “ shared history” that shaped us as individuals and as a country.
