Film Screening: Stonewall
10–11:50 a.m.
Room 3305
When police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in New York City’s Greenwich Village, on June 28, 1969, the street erupted into violent protests that lasted for days. The Stonewall riots, as they came to be known, marked a major turning point in the modern gay civil rights movement in the United States and around the world.
Told through first-hand interviews, Stonewall Uprising recalls the fervently hostile climate in which the gay community was forced to live—and the uprising that launched the gay rights movement.

Telling Our Stories to Heal, Inspire & Transform
3:30–5 p.m.
Pride Center (Campus Center Room 2018)
Join us for a creative writing and storytelling workshop for all LGBTQ+ folks, lead by Aer van de Water.
Writing and storytelling are part of much that we do. Coming out is telling and changing the story about ourselves. Personal writing is a way to heal and reflect when our lives are hard and confusing. Our art is a method of sharing the world we want, whether it’s through slam poetry, a dungeons and dragons campaign, or a POV video on TikTok. Learning to see ourselves and tell where we are reflected in religion and literature and history and science can connect us to our heritage and identity. Writing or telling our stories is an important part in telling our community and our leaders why and how we deserve acceptance, good treatment, food, healthcare, housing, jobs that pay enough, marriage, family, art, nature and other human rights.
Get started on learning how to tell and write your stories through several creative and collaborative exercises. No prior experience needed.
