UCLA Transfer Alliance Program

UCLA TAP Certification

 

Please follow these steps to get UCLA Honors TAP Certified. (Note: this process is for students who have already applied to UCLA for the 2026-2027 academic year):

  • Step 1: Read the letter sent by UCLA for TAP Applicants (here) and fill out the UCLA TAP Applicant Agreement. You can find the agreement here.
  • Step 2: Complete the SmartSheet. You can find the sheet here.
  • Step 3: Attend a TAP Workshop. Workshop dates will be announced soon. Students can get certified during a 30-minute appointment or first-come, first-serve during a Workshop.

Eligibility for UCLA TAP Program

To be eligible for the UCLA TAP program, students must become a Distinguished Honors Scholar. The criteria to become a Distinguised Honors Scholar is below.

  1. Complete 23 Honors Units
    • Must complete a minimum 23 units of Foothill College honors courses (at least 12 honors units need to be completed by the end of fall quarter prior to transferring)
    • Courses must come from at least two different departments
    • Earn a letter grade of C or better in all honors courses
    • Maintain a minimum overall 3.25 UC-transferable GPA
    • The majority of courses need to be completed at Foothill College
  2. Service Learning - Participate in activities that benefits others and the community
    • Service Learning is any action or service you take that has an impact on others in your community
    • Can be personal, volunteer, or paid- but it must have a clear and direct impact on others
    • Service or work you do that has an impact on you, your perceptions, and/or personal growth as well

  3. Check-in with an Academic Counselor on a quarterly basis. After meeting with your counselor, please submit the Counseling Report Form online.

*Please note these are minimums. With high demand majors, a higher GPA is recommended.

International Students

International students are also eligible to apply for this program, however are reviewed separately. International students can participate in TAP and be certified, but are not considered in the same way as domestic students.

Application Timeline for Fall 2026 Admission

  • Attend a Honors Program TAP Session.
  • Students interested in participating UCLA's Transfer Alliance Program should meet with an honors counselor as soon as possible to develop an education plan and identify courses to earn the   Distinugished Honors Scholar certificate.
  • Students submit an admissions application to UCLA by using the systemwide application to the University of California. For Fall 2026, the application submission window opens in October 2025 and closes on December 1, 2025. Please confirm all deadline dates on the UC application. See dates here.
  • Meet with an Honors Counselor to complete TAP Certification paperwork.
  • The deadline for the TAP certification process is in February 2026. Exact dates will be released in January.
  • By May 2026, submit the Distinguished Honors Scholar Certificate petition form.

Alternate Major

If you are a UCLA TAP participant who is not selected for admission to your first-choice major, your application will be considered for an alternate major that is not restricted.

Guaranteed Priority Consideration for Admission

Through the UCLA Transfer Alliance Program (TAP), Foothill College Honors Scholars are given guaranteed priority consideration for admission to the UCLA College of Letters and Sciences. Traditionally, Foothill students experience a 60-70% acceptance rate through this program (versus 14-20%) for all other transfer applicants.
