Foothill Welcomes Chancellor Lambert

July 31, 2023

(1) Foothill Welcomes Chancellor Lambert.

You are warmly invited to attend a Foothill Welcome for Chancellor Lambert on August 30th from 4:00-5:30 pm in the Campus Center Dining Hall. An Evite will be distributed shortly for the event. Light refreshments and passed appetizers will accompany some remarks from campus and community leaders. And, of course, a chance to greet Chancellor Lambert personally. We are collecting items for a stylized swag basket to present during the program. If you have items from your program to include, please provide them to Antoinette Chavez by August 21st.

Also, Central Services is hosting an informal meet and greet on August 1st from 2:30-4:00 pm in the District Office.

(2) Opening Day Theme.

Foothill College’s Opening Day is September 21st. This year’s opening day theme is Making Magic. The inspiration arose from the many discussions with staff, faculty and administrators about our interactions with students. The number of times the experience harkened the word magical was striking. We will spend the morning reflecting on the elements of this magic and how we can leverage the enchantment of Foothill to create a heart forward classroom and campus community–both virtual and on ground.

(3) Football Season Opener.

Join me September 2nd for the kickoff to the Owl Football Season. The home opener is against West Hills Coalinga. It is a 6 pm evening game and I will be “tailgating” starting at 5 pm. Please stop by and join the cheer. This family friendly event should make its way on your calendar!

(4) Foothill College Featured.

Last week a group from the University of Tokyo visited Foothill College to learn more about this community college system in the United States. These students were a part of the Department of University Management and Policy Studies in the Graduate School of Education. Our social media posts caught the eye of the new state Chancellor Sonya Christian and were featured in her well-read blog. Scroll to Fun Photos & Spotted on Social Media.

(5) Resources for Enrollment Growth!

At our All Administrators meeting last week, Vice President Bret Watson shared the District-wide Plan to resource enrollment growth. The District Enrollment Management Committee (DEMC) has shared the plans, dollar amounts, and guidelines for how the resources will be used. The best use of these precious resources will be better explained in your division meetings. I can share that it will take a whole college effort to create the conditions to support the sizable enrollment growth needed to stabilize our finances before the state sunsets our Hold Harmless budget provision. We will need to join the efforts to attract new students with every effort to make sure that continuing students receive the support needed to finish and persist. Together, let’s encourage every student to Take 3 (classes) and Get Ahead! We have reason to feel optimistic. Our enrollment for Fall 2023 is currently up!

Yours in service,

Kristina
