What is ID.me and should I use it to verify my identity when applying for admission?

ID.me + California Community Colleges

The California Community Colleges system has joined with ID.me, a trusted partner, to protect your identity and streamline the admissions process.

  • Note: To use ID.me, you must be 18 years or older with a social security number.
  • When applying for admission with Open CCApply, you will have an option to Verify Now or Verify Later.

Why verify my identity?
  • Verifying your identity prevents others from using your personal information to apply to college.
  • Verifying now will also enable Foothill College to move you through the admissions process faster.

What can I expect?
  1. Redirecting you to the ID.me website to create an account
  2. Verifying your identity with primary or secondary documents
  3. Returning you to your community college application
  4. NOTE: If you select "Verify Now" by mistake, you cannot navigate back to the "Verify Later" screen. Instead you must use the back button on the browser and re-login to your CCCApply account.

Option to Verify Later
  • This option is meant for students under 18 and/or without a social security number.
  • By choosing to Verify Later, you'll be reminded each time you apply to a college.
